Norwich City will have another chance to sign Marvin Zeegelaar from Sporting CP at the end of the season.
As covered by the Portuguese media during the January window, the Canaries had agreed a fee for the player, but weren’t able to complete the signing because he didn’t accept the personal terms. Zeegelaar was also said to be concerned about Norwich’s aspirations.
It was bad news for Sporting, who weren’t using Marvin and couldn’t sell the player. There was only one other club in the competition, which was CSKA, and after knowing that the €3.75m deal with Norwich collapsed, the Russian side offered only €3m.
As reported by O Jogo today, Sporting have too many left-backs and will be selling a couple. Marvin is one of them.
So considering that Norwich had won the race in the past and he’s played only five games since then, it’s quite likely there won’t be much competition again.
As the negotiations happened in late January, maybe there was not enough time to convince the player to move to the Championship. With an entire summer window ahead, this could be a better opportunity.
