Promoted last season to the Premier League, Norwich City didn’t last very long in the top flight.
A disappointing campaign followed in terms of results, but the Canaries went down fighting, receiving praise for sticking to their and Daniel Farke’s idea of how football should be played despite being in a tougher division.
This meant that when Norwich City returned to the Championship, the German manager had a choice to make: stay at Carrow Road or try his luck somewhere else.
He ultimately chose the first option, and is trying to make his way back up to the elite, with the club currently second in the league, two points behind Brentford.
Sitting down with Kicker, Farke was asked about his decision to remain with Norwich City.
He said: “True, there were other options for me. Of course, I first had to gather my thoughts after relegation. This is normal when you’ve completed against the best players and managers in the world at the very highest level, but I deliberately accepted the task with Norwich because I had the feeling that I hadn’t finished the project yet”.
The aim is ‘establish the club in the top 26 in England’, meaning they want to set it up ‘in such a way that it either plays in the Premier League or always ends up safely in the playoffs in the Championship’.
The fact the owners and fans shared his vision was also a big boost for Farke, who sees himself staying for at least another season.
He said: “The backing that I always enjoyed in Norwich made me feel that I still have to give something back to the club and the people here. I wanted to live up to this responsibility. Especially since I always sign contract with the desire to fulfil them. And mine will run at Norwich City until 2022″.
