Leo Noticias, a Spanish website specialising in Cultural Leonesa, reported on Wednesday that Laurens de Bock could be on his way to Spain.

With Leeds United this week signing the player from Club Brugge, there seems to have been an assumption in Spain that it could lead to a Cultural Leonesa switch.

Leo Noticias go to some length to explain how De Bock could fit in at the Spanish club, but it’s surely not going to happen.

Signing for Leeds United with the prospect of Premier League football being dangled is one thing, signing for Leeds and then going to Spain’s second division is quite another.

There’s no work permit issue with De Bock and no obvious reason why he should go out on loan, Leeds could do with the squad strength for the rest of the season.

The player’s own comments make it clear he’s looking to use Leeds United to launch his career, and that’s hardly going to happen if he’s out of sight in Spain.

Quoted by Het Belang van Limburg, De Bock explained: “If things are going well here, Leeds can become a stepping stone.”

Perhaps Cultural Leonesa’s local media are getting a little over excited.
