Despite Leeds United forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga getting on the score sheet last weekend, former Elland Road favourite Noel Whelan has been critical of the German’s fitness.

Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds Lasogga needs to lose some weight: “I think that’s tiredness creeping in. He’s is a big lad, he still needs to lose a little bit of that if he can and lighten himself up and be a little bit more mobile, but maybe that is not his game.”

However, this isn’t the first time the Leeds United loanee has been questioned about his fitness, and last year he had to defend himself to the German media.

Due to his build, doubts about his fitness will always follow him and last year the Leeds United loanee had to tell Kicker.de he’d been carrying out extra training, and had changed his diet: “I like to cook myself, often fish. Fast food is taboo in preseason, with increasing experience you can feel what is good. I feel very good.”

Lasogga joined Leeds United on loan from Hamburg in the summer, and even though Whelan has questioned his fitness the German forward has so far been a success.

Since his arrival in England the 25 year old already has four goals, including his effort against Bristol City last Saturday.

The former Germany U21 international has also become a favourite with the Elland Road faithful despite only being at the club for just under two months.
