Brighton & Hove Albion finally ended their quest for a new boss at the weekend, as they confirmed the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi on a four-year deal.
The Seagulls had been looking for a coach since the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea, and since then several managers had been linked to the job.
In the past week, there had been several reports from Brazil regarding Brighton interest in Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira. The stories from South America claimed the Verdão boss turned down the approach, since he can fight for more titles at his club and even has a bigger salary than the Premier League side would pay.
Following his side’s match at the weekend, the local media asked the coach about his decision to stay. He went pretty deep in his answer, and explained that he has a long project to be worked on.
“The strongest is what is invisible to the eyes. Nobody knows me as a man, only as a coach. Only my players and my family know me. As long as the marriage lasts, and for my part it will last, I will live it as intensely as we have with our fans. That’s all I ask: as long as we’re here together, let’s live this intensely. In health and in sickness, in sadness and in joy. Together at all times,” said Abel Ferreira (via Torcedores).
“If you want more proof than bringing my whole family here… for me it’s been a fantastic challenge and a new experience. But I won’t trade houses for this or that. Big clubs have big coaches and I am at a big club.”
Roberto Ze Derbi now has a couple of weeks to work with Brighton’s squad before their next challenge in the Premier League. Following the international break, the Seagulls face Liverpool at Anfield on the 1st of October.
