Moussa Sissoko is a firm favourite of France manager Didier Deschamps, which probably helped him get his Tottenham Hotspur transfer.

During and after a difficult season with Newcastle United, in which Sissoko himself failed to impress, Deschamps continued to pick the player. Newcastle fans were left bemused, and then further shocked when a good Euro 2016 saw Sissoko linked to the likes of Real Madrid.

In the end Sissoko left Newcastle on deadline day for Tottenham, after Everton were gazumped, and it meant the player skipping some training sessions.

Deschamps was asked about Sissoko’s fitness ahead of the match against Belarus, and France Football quote him as saying: “He’s fine. He is ready as others. He has athletic ability above average. There are no worries.”

France Football respond with: ‘Yeah, no worries is easily said.’

They clearly feel Sissoko is lacking fitness and it showed in his display against Belarus. Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham may have some work to do to get Sissoko up to their high fitness standards.
