Jorginho has been an integral part of Chelsea squad since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Napoli in 2018.
The midfielder won the Europa League, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup with the Blues, with the latter two successes coming in this calendar year.
His contract with the west London club runs down in 2023 and it would make sense for Thomas Tuchel’s side to hold talks with the 29-year-old’s camp over an extension.
On November 12th, Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos revealed Marina Granovskaia, the English club’s director, has already let him know about Chelsea’s desire to extend his client’s contract.
The Brazil-born Italy international’s representative has now made a u-turn regarding the player’s contract talks at Chelsea.
TuttoMercatoWeb interviewed Santos and when asked if he has talked to Chelsea about the former Napoli star’s renewal, the agent said: “We still have a year and a half on the contract. There was no talk of renewal, maybe we will do it later.”
Meanwhile, Santos gave his take on Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski finishing ahead of Jorginho in the race to win the Ballon d’Or.
“Ballon d’Or? Jorginho came behind Messi and Lewandowski, two incredible top players. Arriving in front of CR7, Neymar and many other champions is certainly not devoid of pride and satisfaction for the work done,” he explained.
“I would have given it to Lewandowski, I thought he would win. But Messi has already won six, his global career has been evaluated and not just the last year. He is an indisputable player.”
