The Brazilian media is today back with claims on the future of Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.
Despite the recent rumours which said Corinthians are working to sign the 34-year-old next year, the story went a little cold in the past few days for two reasons. Firstly because Barcelona are said to be strongly interested in him, and then it was said the Red Devils would like to hold him in the squad due to the latest Covid outbreak.
Now in a story brought by Lance’s blogger Rodrigo Viana, it’s claimed that Cavani is still to take a decision on his future.
The journalist claims to have received information that the striker wants to wait until the start of the year to define a plan, as there are three situations involved: The Covid-19 issue, Barcelona’s interest and Corinthians’ ‘official approach’.
Viana adds that it would be ‘no surprise’ if Cavani shows up in Brazil in January, and that’s certainly the most impactful line in his piece.
Corinthians know they’d need to make big efforts to sign the Uruguayan next summer, when his contract with Manchester United expires. Buying him from the Red Devils in January sounds nearly impossible, so we’d say that the winter move could only happen in case the striker rescinds his deal at Old Trafford.
Of course Barcelona’s competition is another issue which makes Corinthians’ mission even more difficult. So regardless of how confident the journalist is about his information, we must disagree and say that Cavani’s move to Brazil in January would indeed be a surprise.
