Earlier on Tuesday, it was announced that David Alaba, whose contract at Bayern Munich runs out in the summer, wanted to publicly talk about his transfer future today.

The Bundesliga leaders have already replaced the Austria international with Dayot Upamecano, who will transfer from RB Leipzig once the season ends, but the versatile defender has yet to choose his next spot.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been named as potential landing spots, with Jürgen Klopp’s team perhaps the one with the most desperate need for his services as things stand.

Either way, Alaba held his press conference on Tuesday afternoon, and while he didn’t unveil his next destination, he made it very clear he was leaving.

Explaining that money wasn’t a factor because he had ‘personally decided to see something new’ and ‘look for a new challenge’, the defender also said, relayed by Bild: “It’s no secret that my agent is negotiating with other clubs.”

He didn’t say who, but he explained his next club had to be somewhere where he could ‘develop himself as a person on and off the pitch’.

While he admitted ‘all’ of Bayern Munich fought for him to stay, the decision to leave is his alone, and it was a ‘difficult one’.

Either way, there we have it: confirmation that Alaba is leaving straight from the horse’s mouth, and with Liverpool mentioned directly by Bild earlier this morning, it seems highly unlikely that Klopp and the transfer men at Anfield won’t have picked up the phone to try and bring him to Merseyside next season.
