The European pursue for Flamengo midfielder Gerson continues to be a hot topic in the Brazilian media.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Tottenham Hotspur made a €18m bid to sign him, but that was turned down by the Rio de Janeiro side.
Still, other clubs such as Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are said to be in negotiations with the player’s agents, and could make a bid of €35m next week.
Following those claims, it was time for the local media to speak to Flamengo’s board and see what’s going on. But the club say they haven’t received any offers for Gerson so far.
It was first president Rodolfo Landim who’s spoken to Sportv and said (via Fox Sports): “I don’t know if it reached Bruno Spindel or Marcos Braz, but there was no proposal for Gerson. They usually respond to me, you can be sure.”
Then Esporte Interativo claims to have contacted a person from Flamengo’s board, and the response was pretty much the same. They said there was no official document, despite previous claims.
Those quotes basically mean they’re dismissing Tottenham’s bid.
Since Chelsea are said to be still preparing their offer, then that should be a topic for the next week.
