Andrea Radrizzani has made no secret of his desire to purchase another football club in the future.
Having made a success of his time as Leeds United owner, finally taking the Whites back to the Premier League, the Italian is already looking to build on his football business.
That’s seen Radrizzani linked to a number of Serie A clubs, with that being the market it’s considered likeliest he’ll invest in, and with the businessman having lots of contacts in Italian football.
One of the clubs recently linked is Atalanta, which would certainly be an ambitious swoop. The club are in the Champions League this year and will feel they have a chance of making it to European football next season as well, continuing a great run which has seen them becoming much more established in world football.
Buying Atalanta could throw up future problems for Radrizzani, with it being forbidden for the same person to own two clubs in the same European competition. Given that’s what Leeds United will be aiming for in the medium term, and that Atalanta wouldn’t want to halt their growth, it’s a clear issue.
No it seems the claims were ahead of the reality of the situation.
Antonio Percassi, Atalanta president, has rubbished rumours of a deal being in progress, quoted by Bergamo News as saying there’s “No negotiations” ongoing with Radrizzani.
