In a very surprising rumour this week, Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli was linked to a move to Corinthians.
That’s how it started: a journalist claimed the Brazilian side had agreed the signing of a striker for the next year. Then, on Twitter, it was soon claimed that the Gunners’ player was the one.
Now as journalists started looking for more information on this story, it turns out it was denied by multiple sources.
One of those to turn it down was Arsenal director Edu Gaspar. Journalist Cristian Moraes claims to have spoken to the official, who said there’s been ‘no contact’ between the clubs and there’s ‘no interest’ between the parts for a deal.
Other journalists come up with the same information. Marcelo Braga claims Martinelli’s agents said there’s ‘zero chance’ for the player to return to Brazil in the next transfer window. Furthermore, Caique Silva writes he got a reply saying “there is no negotiation between club and player”.
Jorge Nicola also features a video on the situation, and given the striker’s little playing time under Mikel Arteta this season, he claims it’d be a lot more likely for the 20-year-old to go on loan to another European side than going back to his home country at this stage.
