Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke has been out on loan at FC Twente since last summer and as it stands he’ll return to Brendan Rodgers’ side at the end of this season.
The centre-back didn’t have a major role at Celtic last season and was restricted to just over 400 minutes in the league. His situation has improved since joining the Eredivisie side as he played 1,679 minutes from 24 games so far.
According to Twente Fans, the Dutch club are hoping to have the Celtic man next season.
They also relay comments made by FC Twente technical advisor Jan Streuer to ESPN NL about signing the defender again in the summer window.
Recent claims have stated the Dutch club are keen to retain the 24-year-old. Their official insists they have to wait to find out the Scottish champions’ plans for Lagerbielke before making an effort to retain him.
“We have to wait and see. It is also important what Celtic want,” he said.
“For us he’s a good player. He has a good mentality and is a good header. He is doing better and better. But you have no idea what Celtic want. Do they have good players there? Maybe they want to rent him out for another year. We have to wait and see.”
The Sweden international’s contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side lasts until 2028. Earlier this month, the Celtic owned player stated he’s happy at Twente but wants to wait before making a decision on extending his stay.
Twente don’t have a buying option and have to negotiate a fresh deal with Celtic to retain Lagerbielke.
