Last weekend, Frenkie de Jong admitted he did not consider leaving Barcelona amid the La Liga side agreeing a deal with Manchester United for his transfer in the summer.
The midfielder has not enjoyed regular game time this season as he has made five starts in all competitions for the Catalan club.
On October 13th, Sport reported that Manchester United have maintained contact with the 25-year-old.
This is relayed by Sport, who then add their own information on this case towards the end of their report.
Ten Hag failed to convince De Jong to join him at Old Trafford in the last window, and the newspaper suggests it may be easier to take the Dutchman out of the Camp Nou in the coming months due to lack of regular minutes with Xavi Hernández’s side.
Sport state ‘there is no doubt’ that Manchester United ‘will keep trying’ to sign the player.
However, a January deal seems difficult because De Jong’s priority is to still continue at Barcelona.
That could change next summer, however, if De Jong receives a tempting offer, both financially and sporting wise.
