As thing stand, Lucas Digne’s future at Everton rests entirely on the Toffees and their desire to make some money from his exit.

Inter, who are in need of a left-back, made an approach for the player, but Gazzetta dello Sport made it clear both on Wednesday and today that the Goodison Park side are being difficult, at least in their eyes.

That’s because the first attempts from the Serie A side ‘led to nothing good’, as the Italians want a loan, which Everton are refusing to accept.

Inter want to spend money next summer, not in January, but the Toffees have made it clear: ‘the no to the loan is decisive’.

That is, ‘at least for now’, especially since we are only in the first few days of the window, with plenty of time for those in charge of transfers at Goodison Park to change their mind.

Inter were, at a push, ready to include a ‘right to buy’ in the deal, ‘but certainly not with a mandatory one’, which is where the sticking point appears to be.
