We all know it only takes a tweet to create a transfer rumour, especially in Brazil, where local outlets tend to believe in everything that is said in Europe.
So with Emre Konur writing today that Atletico Mineiro are interested in the signing of Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho, that was well covered in the player’s home country.
It’s been said that the 36-year-old could receive an offer from the Galo in case he leaves the Premier League side in January, as his contract expires at the end of the season.
Now it turns out that João Castelo-Branco, the reliable United Kingdom correspondent from ESPN Brasil, comes up to dismiss the rumour.
“No chance’, says the journalist, adding that Fernandinho will not leave Manchester City in the January transfer window.
The midfielder had already been linked with a return to Brazil last summer, with a couple of clubs being linked, and ended up renewing his deal with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Perhaps a return to South America could even be on the cards at the end of the season, but it seems he’s going nowhere next month.
