‘Zidane says no’ – That’s the headline on the front page of Ekstra Bladet’s sport section today.

The Danish newspaper are covering claims from Spain that Real Madrid have decided to move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba instead of Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen.

It’s the same newspaper which spoke to the Spurs star last week and published the quotes which reverberated around the rumour mill, Eriksen is seriously considering a Tottenham exit and Real Madrid would be a good step.

But if Zinedine Zidane isn’t so keen, then there’s not a lot of hope.

After Denmark’s 5-1 victory over Georgia this week, Ekstra Bladet say Eriksen wanted to take a step back, unwilling to give any more transfer talk: “The focus is on vacation, and I’ve said what needed to be said… No more bombs this time around.”

Ekstra Bladet suggest this stance could be because he’s heard from Real Madrid they won’t be making an effort to sign him, but that’s just speculation.

The developments around interest from the Spanish club make a Tottenham renewal likelier. Everything can change quickly, and it may depend on Manchester United’s Pogba plan.
