The Portuguese press are far more used to talking up transfers than talking them down. Exits from the big Portuguese clubs are followed incredibly closely and the newspapers have links, and therefore get leaks, from the biggest sides.
Any hint of a transfer, and the three main Portuguese sport newspapers are all over it, and on several occasions this summer they’ve reported on Bruno Martins Indi potentially joining Stoke City.
The Dutchman spent last season on loan at Stoke, and Mark Hughes wants to have him again for the next campaign, but there’s been no agreement reached.
On Tuesday Sky Sports reported: ‘Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi is due to have a medical at Stoke on Wednesday after the clubs agreed a deal, according to Sky sources.’
That didn’t happen, and Martins Indi was with the Porto squad that played a friendly against Rio Ave on Wednesday.
O Jogo now report that there’s no agreement yet for the player’s sale to Stoke City. There’s a possibility of an agreement being reached at some stage, but Sky jumped the gun.
O Jogo add that it’s not even certain that Martins Indi will sign for Stoke, given there’s no agreement.
