If ever there was a player who needed a restart, Tottenham fans would probably agree that it’s Tanguy Ndombele.
Well, that restart could now be underway, with Le Courrier Picard explaining that the midfielder has turned out to be a ‘nice surprise’ for new club Nice.
Ndombele has endured a difficult few years, to say the least, with his disastrous time at Tottenham interspersed with failed loan spells at Lyon, Napoli and Galatasaray.
All of those failed to get his career back on track and he even found himself being heavily criticised in Turkey, with a particular focus on his weight.
He left Tottenham on a free transfer in the summer and joined Nice, looking to revive his career back in his homeland and put a difficult few years in the rearview mirror.
That move came about thanks to Nice sports director Florian Maurice, who signed him for Lyon and jumped at the chance to reunite with him.
A deal was simply not put on the table, though, with him revealing that the former Tottenham man had done plenty to make it happen. That included heading to Merano in Italy for weight loss treatment. That weight was lost before the start of the campaign.
That’s proven to be a catalyst as Ndombele has been a starter at the beginning of this season and appears to have settled in well.
Whether that can be maintained over a season remains to be seen but the positives are there early on, and the Tottenham misery may be firmly in the past.
