New Real Unión signing Marcos Luna has told El Periódico Aragón that the Spanish club’s connection with Aston Villa convinced him to join them over other options.
Last Thursday, the club owned by Unai Emery signed the right-back on a loan deal with an option to buy from Real Zaragoza.
A day later, we reported the 20-year-old could have an easy route to Aston Villa in the future, and the move could be the sign of a transfer route to come.
Towards the end of November, the Premier League side announced a “new collaborative partnership” with the third division Spanish club. It was also stated Real Unión have joined Aston Villa owners V Sports’ global network of clubs.
Luna has struggled for regular game time at Real Zaragoza and hopes the situation will improve at Real Unión.
When asked why he picked Real Unión over other options, he said: “They told me about the idea that the club has for the next few years and it is interesting, it is a nice project with Aston Villa and some other team [Vitoria de Guimarães].
“Among the offers I had, I saw an ambitious project here, which seeks not to settle into the category, but to reach professional football in the coming years. That’s why I opted.”
Taking his quotes into account, it seems like the Spaniard is tempted by the Unai Emery connection, and the carrot of Aston Villa.
