At the end of the transfer window, Wout Faes joined Leicester City from Reims, for a fee worth around £15m to the French club.
So far this season, the 24-year-old has made six appearances in the Premier League, following on from three in Ligue 1 before the move happened. It’s been a big test for Faes and Leicester struggling at times this season hasn’t made things any easier for him.
However, he’s still shown enough to be receiving praise, and Faes is clearly very happy with the move and what he’s found at the Foxes since.
Voetbal Krant quote the defender as saying: “I think this is the highest possible stage at club level for a player. For me it is very nice to be here. I do like tough challenges and they are allowed more here. For me that is an advantage. against a world-class striker, which is a difference from what I was used to.”
Faes was of interest to Chelsea earlier on in his career, but not having much experience then, he felt it was too early for a move to Stamford Bridge.
On that Chelsea topic, he said: “I heard about that interest, but then I decided pretty quickly that I was in the right place at Anderlecht. In terms of youth training and progression opportunities, I think you couldn’t be better off.”
Not being caught up in the Chelsea interest appears to have worked out for Faes’ career and he has plenty of time ahead of him to secure a move to a Champions League club.
For now, he’s clearly happy where he is and looking forward to proving himself further for Leicester City.
