There’s no doubt that people in Chile want Alexis Sanchez out of Arsenal. It’s clear that both the local media an fans are unhappy with having their biggest star left out of the running for the biggest European titles.
It could be considered propaganda that is coming from Chilean newspapers, who look for every possible way for the player to leave. El Mercurio, for example, has claimed several times that Sanchez was close to an exit, and today, they actually bring the possibilities for him to leave before the end of his contract.
In a story named ‘Sanchez’s ways to leave Arsenal in January’, besides claiming he wants out, the newspaper interviewed Juan de Dios Crespo, a Spanish sporting lawyer who was involved in the Neymar transfer this summer. The one who wore the Panama hat, you must remember.
Crespo was asked to explained all the ways the player can force his way out of Arsenal in January, and explained: “In England there is the transfer request but the clubs can refuse to sell a player or indicate a transfer amount in the contract, and here there isn’t. Sanchez made a mistake, didn’t use the weapons he had. If he used the transfer request, Arsenal would have said ‘you’re worth 40 or 60 million’, that is, you have a basis to negotiate, but it should have been done in July.
“If Alexis Sanchez does it ‘in rebellion’, he will do it without just cause and will be subject to sports and economic sanctions. It has to be something consensual with Arsenal.
“Sanchez is a worker, he can leave, but he has to pay an exorbitant amount. He has to reach an agreement with Arsenal, the amount will not be only the remains of the contract in money, but much more. The best thing is to stay until June. If the Chilean presses, they will surely put a figure for him to to go.
“It should be a high figure, because the English usually establish it as a contractual break. It is absurd to ask for the transfer request in January, why get into trouble with Arsenal? Sanchez will be able to leave according to the amount of money that dictates a judge and not as the player wants.”
Many Arsenal fans aware of the English transfer process will probably read most of Crespo’s comments and think ‘nonsense’, and they’d have a point. It’s not so complicated, a club either pay enough to please Arsenal or the player stays, transfer request or not.
What this all does show is that as far as many in Chile are concerned, Sanchez is finished at Arsenal and it’s just a matter of when, and how, he leaves the club.
