Over the past few weeks, Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in the near future.
The Catalan giants and other top European clubs are reportedly keeping close tabs on Coutinho, who has been in outstanding for this season.
Spanish media have suggested several times that the likes of Neymar and Luis Suarez, who are close to the Liverpool star, could convince Coutinho to sign for Barcelona.
Around a year ago Neymar responded to the possibility of playing with Coutinho, whilst speaking at a Gillette marketing function, and said: “There are many players with the qualities who could play with this team, one of them is Coutinho. I think that he is a ‘crack’ and it would be great to have him here.”
Comments attributed to Neymar during the last international break, about being destined to play with Coutinho at club level, were made up by a Twitter account.
The Barcelona player was asked again by the Spanish media on his arrival in Spain after the international break.
According to Spanish website AS, Neymar was asked several questions by journalists on his arrival, with one of them being ‘Is it true that you recommended Coutinho to Barcelona?’.
Neymar, however, chose not to respond to any questions, and left the airport as quickly as he could.
With 8 goals and 8 assists to his name already this season for his club and country, Coutinho’s name is on everyone’s lips, and it remains to be seen if the Brazilian can keep the momentum up for Jurgen Klopp throughout the season.
