Since Neymar’s injury in the match between Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Marseille this weekend, the Brazilian press has been following pretty much every step of the process where people try to find out what the recovery time will be.

The latest update now comes from Globo Esporte, who claims the PSG star will have under surgery, and should only be back playing football in May.

It was first thought that Neymar had just sprained his ankle, and that was the optimistic part, since he could still hurry to play against Real Madrid for the Champions League early in March.

However, doctors ended up finding out that he has a fracture on his fifth metatarsal, and will have an operation to fix it with a pin.

The surgery is very similar to the one Gabriel Jesus had last year, when he had the same injury when playing for Manchester City. It still wasn’t decided where or with whom Neymar will make the operation.

The player is expected to miss quite a big part of what’s left of the season, as he’s only set to get back to training in late April. For PSG, he would only return for the three final fixtures of the French league, and possibly a second leg of the Champions League semifinal. For Brazil, he will miss the two friendlies the national team have before the World Cup.

But to play the World Cup, which is his priority, Neymar should be fine.
