Everton’s search for a striker for Ronald Koeman continues, and whilst a deal for Nikola Vlasic looks pretty much tied up, pending him getting his permit paperwork in time, it’s thought the manager wants a more senior player.

Not wanting to change from their path of the summer, the Portuguese press continue to push Raul Jimenez towards Goodison Park. On Wednesday it was claimed Everton had ‘intensified’ contacts to sign the Mexican, and an offer was expected to arrive.

Jimenez is in Mexico with his national team, which wouldn’t prevent a move but would make one more difficult. There’s no talk in Mexico, from their own information, about an imminent move to Everton and the media there are more excited about the striker meeting WWE superstar Sin Cara overnight.

In Portugal there’s all kinds of confusion. A Bola say Ronald Koeman is waiting for a striker with Jimenez one of his options and the next few hours ‘crucial’ for Everton.

The next few hours are also crucial for Benfica and Marseille’s sudden strong interest in Konstantinos Mitroglou could make a Jimenez exit harder. Although Benfica would rather sell the Mexican, believing they’d get more money for a less important player.

Spain’s AS report Everton have also been keen on Fernando Llorente, but it’s likelier he moves to Chelsea or Tottenham.
