After being linked with two bigger names in Serie A, it seems Achraf Lazaar will indeed be returning to Italy, but it’ll be with likely relegation candidates Benevento

Promoted last season after finishing fifth and winning the Serie B play-off, the south Italian side are reportedly ‘on the verge’ of signing the Newcastle left-back.

Arriving from Palermo just last summer, the Morocco international barely featured under Rafa Benitez in the Geordies’ Championship winning campaign.

According to Benevento’s edition of Il Mattino, the 25-year-old will be signing with on a loan with a view to buy, and things are so advanced that the newspaper go with a headline basically confirming that he’s already part of the club.

Considering all transfers on deadline day in Italy are finalised in Milan, that’s where the player will be expected to be in the coming hours.

As things stand, however, there’s been no official confirmation from either club, meaning that, until then, anything can still happen.
