Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has been linked with a move to Serie A side SPAL, according to claims in Italy. His second link to a Serie A club in as many weeks.
The Italian side are looking to strengthen their squad this summer after gaining promotion to the top flight for the first time ever. La Nuova Ferrara have reported SPAL could look to sign a goalkeeper despite agreeing a deal to bring in La Spezia’s Leandro Chichizola to replace the outgoing Alex Meret.
However, the Argentine isn’t expected to be the holder of the No.1 jersey, and therefore SPAL are looking to land another keeper with Serie A experience. Leeds United’s Silvestri is reportedly one of the names being considered by SPAL, along with AC Milan goalkeeper Gabriel.
Silvestri’s future at Leeds United is uncertain, and with just 12 months left on his contract with the Championship side he may have a decision to make this summer. The 26-year-old has already been linked with a return to Italy with Bologna, but this is less likely with Antonio Mirante now looking set to stay with the Italian club.
SPAL would be able to give the Silvestri more playing time than he got last season, and he would be reunited with his former Leeds United teammate Mirco Antenucci.
