On Tuesday evening, the Brazilian media reported Newcastle United’s €35m offer for Vasco wonderkid Andrey Santos.
Outlet Globo Esporte wrote that the Magpies’ offer, which was delivered through agent Giuliano Bertolucci, should be ‘discussed in the coming days’, with the project sounding attractive for the 18-year-old.
Now as Goal features a story about the situation, they claim that Newcastle should make a formal offer ‘in the next few days’, but that should actually be turned down by Vasco.
It’s said the Rio de Janeiro side have already been rejecting offers from other English and French clubs, and their stance ‘should not change’.
They see big potential in Andrey and would like to keep him for longer, and that’s why they’re expected to reject this bid as well.
Vasco’s biggest sale ever was of €20m when agreeing Paulinho’s transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in 2018, and according to Goal, the club’s idea is now to break this record with Andrey Santos.
The midfielder has just signed a new contract with the club which includes a €50m release clause, meaning that if Newcastle really want him, perhaps they’ll need to get closer to those figures.
