On April 13th, we covered a claim from Atlántico that Newcastle United have registered their interest in Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga. It was also stated the La Liga side have taken it for granted that he will leave them after this season.
The 20-year-old has been a regular for the Spanish club since the start of this season and has impressed for them, managing nine goals and four assists from 35 games. His fine form has resulted in several clubs, including the Magpies, keeping tabs on him.
Real Madrid have also been named as the midfielder’s suitor, but AS journalist Manu Sainz now explains that Veiga could end up in the Premier League, where Newcastle are in the mix to sign him.
The journalist says Eddie Howe’s side were the ‘first club to travel’ to Vigo to take a closer look at the Spain U21 international in action for Celta.
Veiga has a €40m release clause in his contract that expires in 2026. According to Sainz, the Tyneside club are ‘willing to pay’ his clause to take him away from Celta in the next window.
However, Newcastle are expected to face competition from other Premier League sides in the race to sign Veiga, with Liverpool also named as an interested party.
