Newcastle United are interested in the signing of Lovro Majer from Rennes, according to reports from France.
Outlet Media Foot writes that the Magpies are planning to ‘try their luck’ to sign the Croatia international.
Following the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Lyon last year, it’s said Newcastle want to emulate that coup again, as the Brazilian could do ‘even better’ if he had Majer by his side in midfield.
Media Foot doesn’t have many details about how much the Magpies are putting on the table to sign the Croatian player.
What they do say is that with the club’s ownership, there’s ‘no doubt’ Newcastle will have enough money to convince Rennes of accepting the sale.
Majer’s performances in Ligue 1 are reportedly getting the interest from several clubs, with the report pointing out that the likes of Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have been keeping an eye on him as well.
The midfielder has a contract with Rennes running until 2027, as he just signed an extension with the French side. He’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €22m, although a January transfer could always cost more.
