Newcastle United continue to be pointed out by the Portuguese media as the main contender for Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos, and according to the latest reports, the Magpies are about to make a new attempt to land the 21-year-old.
It’s newspaper Jornal de Notícias who comes up with a new story today, this time claiming Eddie Howe’s side will present an offer worth just over €40m for the transfer.
Newcastle are said to be trying to ‘anticipate the competition’ for Ramos, as the list of interested sides includes the likes of Everton, Leeds United, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Jornal de Notícias highlights that the striker has been having a great start to the season, with four goals already, but Benfica may not be able to keep him for much longer.
The interest from Newcastle has been reported for a while, just like the Portuguese media warning that the Eagles don’t want to lose the player before the two Champions League clashes against Dinamo Kiev.
So it’s very possible that a potential transfer would only happen in the final days of the summer window.
