Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby is a ‘priority objective’ for Newcastle United in the summer window.

Having finished the 2021/22 season with 10 goals and 15 assists, the winger managed 17 goals and 14 assists during the recently concluded campaign.

Friday’s edition of L’Equipe states the ‘double double’ achieved by the 22-year-old shows he can perform at a ‘very high level’. There is a hypothesis of him staying at the club, with whom he can play in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga side have already informed the France international that they are counting on him for the new season. There will be new talks on this topic in the coming days, but Bayer are aware ‘they will face potential major attacks’ for Diaby.

Newcastle United have shown interest in Diaby and the newspaper states they ‘will make an offer’ to secure his services. There is no mention of the fee the Tyneside club plan to propose Bayer.

As it stands, Eddie Howe’s side have ‘not yet agreed’ a deal with the attacker, who is their ‘priority objective’ this summer, but the option to make a switch to St James’ Park is ‘not ruled out’ by the Frenchman.

L’Equipe state Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have ‘made their interest known’ in the player, and with Newcastle willing to make an offer for Diaby, it needs to be seen whether the two north London clubs ‘could take action’ to sign him.
