Newcastle United want to bet heavily on Atlético Madrid’s Kieran Trippier, reports Marca.
Manchester United were keen on signing the right-back in the last window, but the La Liga winners’ insistence the Red Devils pay his €40m clause is something that scared them off.
That, however, will not bother the Tyneside club as the outlet states ‘Newcastle will do it’. It’s claimed Eddie Howe’s side are interested in the 31-year-old, so much so that they are ‘preparing an offer’ of €30m in the winter market.
Trippier, who left Tottenham Hotspur to join the Spanish club in 2019, wants to return to the Premier League.
If the Magpies were to send a proposal around €30m to the Metropolitano, it will make Los Rojiblancos think about selling the fullback in January, especially after the England international made his desire to return to his country public earlier this year.
Newcastle are betting on Trippier, who is tempted by the possibility of making a switch to the English league. His contract expires in 2023 and Atlético have a decision to make for January, should Newcastle submit an official offer for the ex-Burnley man.
What we would add on this is that €30m seems a little more than required.
