This summer, we’ve already covered reports from Portugal claiming Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos was being chased by the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.
Now it’s time for a new Premier League club to join that battle.
According to journalist Pedro Sepulveda, Newcastle United are interested in the player, and ‘will come forward with an offer’ for him ‘in the next few days’.
The report didn’t say how much the Magpies want to spend on the signing, although it did claim that Benfica could sell him if for a bid worth over €30m.
Today, Portuguese newspaper react to the news, and outlet O Jogo makes it clear it shouldn’t be easy for Newcastle to sign Ramos from the Eagles in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Their piece claims that the offer ‘will have to be very tempting’, because manager Roger Schmidt is ‘not in the mood’ to let the player go this summer.
The player has been having a great start of season, and losing him at this stage would be a big blow for the Eagles.
Benfica reportedly already turned down Nottingham Forest’s offer of over €30m, so Newcastle should be aware they’ll need to outbid the Reds.
