Newcastle United were among the clubs that looked at signing Amadou Haidara in the winter market.
However, the Magpies failed to take the Mali international away from RB Leipzig in January.
Days after the mid-season window closed, the 24-year-old was quizzed on the reports linking him to Newcastle United. The midfielder stated he is happy at Leipzig but opened the door for a future move to England by stating the Premier League is “very interesting”.
Haidara has been sidelined with a knee injury since March’s international break and is ‘fighting for his comeback’.
The report then points out that Newcastle United were on the lookout for the player, but a deal didn’t take shape because RB Leipzig built a wall in front of him. That may not be the case in the summer, when Haidara’s release clause of ‘more than €37m’ will come into effect.
With a buyout clause and Haidara dreaming of a move to England, the Magpies’ chances of landing him in the next window would become easier. It remains to be seen whether or not Eddie Howe’s side still have an interest to acquire the Leipzig player’s services.
