Newcastle United’s takeover is still being covered around the European sport media, with endless claims of the club lining up big signings in the coming windows.

Agents and intermediaries will be at work already, seeing how much of the Magpies’ pie they can get for themselves, and identifying Newcastle as another Premier League solution for their players.

Many of the transfer rumours were easy to predict in advance, and one of those was Gareth Bale. Sure enough, there are now reports from Spain backing up interest from Newcastle in the Wales international.

Sport report the club ‘will go for’ Bale, and the situation is pointing to a summer move. At that point, Bale’s contract with Real Madrid will have expired, and as things stand there’s no willingness from Carlo Ancelotti’s side to extend the deal.

They want to get rid of Bale’s €30m wages, and it’s got to be considered very unlikely the former Tottenham player will get that kind of salary from Newcastle United or anyone else.

Bale is currently injured, and Newcastle, even with increased funds, will surely want to consider long and hard over whether tying up a big chunk of money on the star is the best way to spend it.
