The Brazilian version of Goal shares some interesting claims regarding Newcastle United’s wish to give Bruno Guimarães a new contract.
According to their report, the Magpies will have a meeting with the midfielder’s staff ‘in the next few days’ to discuss a renewal.
It’s said the first contacts have already been made and Newcastle promised to give Bruno the ‘biggest salary in the squad’. His wages should rise to around £200k a week.
The reason for the Magpies to renew his contract now, despite his current deal expiring only in 2026, is that they want to protect him in case Real Madrid come after him in the January transfer window.
Still according to Goal Brasil, the La Liga giants are currently ‘monitoring’ Guimarães, who they consider to be a ‘promising’ player, having him as a target since Casemiro’s departure in the summer. It’s said the 24-year-old himself is aware of the interest, despite not receiving any contact yet.
With Newcastle waiting for the player’s staff in the coming days, it’s said their plan is to agree a deal before the World Cup. They want him tied with a deal until 2027.
