A week ago we brought claims from Turkey that Sivasspor were closing in on the loan signing of Henri Saivet.

Just a few days before that, Sivasspor manager Samet Aybaba had confirmed the club’s intentions over the Newcastle United player when he was quoted as saying: “They are talking with Robinho, they are talking with Saivet from England, they are talking with a few local players.”

The Turkish club’s president Mecnun Odyakmaz was set to fly to England to try and further a deal with Newcastle, with the sticking point being a clause to make the deal permanent at the end of the current season.

On Tuesday evening France Football report Saivet is on the verge of making that move, which will be a loan with a buying option for the Turkish club.

France Football says clubs in the Premier League and Spain were also interested in doing a deal with Newcastle, but it’s Sivasspor who appear to have won the race, probably because they’ve been pressing so hard over the past couple of weeks.
