Kieran Trippier was Newcastle United’s first signing under the Tyneside club’s new owners.

His arrival this month helped the Premier League side strengthen the right-back position, but the Magpies are still keen to bolster their defence in the winter market.

Apart from trying to give Eddie Howe a new centre-back, the English club are also looking to strengthen the left sid the defence.

Two days ago, TNT Sport reported Newcastle are ‘close to agreeing’ a deal for Sassuolo’s Rogério. It was also explained the St James’ Park club ‘should spend €15m’ to land the 24-year-old.

Sportitalia journalist Gianluigi Longari took to Twitter to report Newcastle’s interest in the Brazilian. He claims Howe’s side are ‘trying for Rogério’, but the ‘negotiation remains very complicated’.

That’s because there is not much time left to reach an agreement with Sassuolo. The window closes on Monday and the Italian club don’t have enough time to bring in a replacement for the South American.

Rogério has been first choice left-back, making 18 league appearances this season for Sassuolo.

Longari’s latest claim suggests Newcastle and the Italian club are not close to agreeing a deal for the fullback’s transfer.
