Earlier this week, the British media claimed Newcastle United are still interested in Dennis Praet, a Sampdoria midfielder who the club had allegedly been interested in during the summer.
Despite saying the name was still on the list, The Northern Echo’s story didn’t give many details about a new chase, but Calcio Mercato has an interesting response to the case today.
The player’s recent quotes saying he would fancy a challenge in England is the reason the outlet takes the rumour very seriously, so they believe Newcastle wouldn’t be wasting their time.
Calcio Mercato claims that even though Sampdoria managed to turn down an offer of over €20m from Newcastle in the summer, it would be hard to hold him again since his release clause is only €25m. So even a January move is seen as a possibility.
But they also claim that Rafael Benitez shouldn’t find an easy path to sign the 23-year-old, since there would be competition from Bundesliga and La Liga.
