It seems that Newcastle United have sold Chancel Mbemba for much less than expected this summer.
Even though most of the Portuguese media kept saying that Porto spent about €8m to sign the player in July, newspaper O Jogo comes up with some new information this Tuesday.
The Dragons didn’t officially reveal how much they paid to Newcastle, but O Jogo’s sources found out that it was €4.5m.
Porto counted on Mbemba’s wish to join them, and were pretty patient during the negotiations, even when manager Sérgio Conceição was urging the club to get signings as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, Mbemba still hasn’t been able to make his debut for Porto. He got injured in his second training session for the club, and is still not fully recovered.
So considering that Newcastle paid €12m to sign Mbemba from Anderlecht in 2015, selling him for €4.5m three years later wasn’t exactly the best deal, if the claims are correct.
He made 59 appearances for the club.
