When we covered the news saying that English clubs sent scouts to watch Benfica play Bayern Munich for the Champions League on Wednesday, the Portuguese press had no idea which players the emissaries had an eye on.
Now they still don’t sound so sure, but there’s a possible target for many of these officials. That’s goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos.
As we said yesterday, the goalkeeper was the only player who had a positive performance for the Eagles, having stopped Bayern from scoring many more.
Record has an article about his great performance, they write that many of the scouts that attended to Estádio da Luz on Wednesday were only there to watch him.
The official scouting list included the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Manchester United, Newcastle United and Watford.
Now Record claims that ‘some of the Premier League clubs’ who were there had the goalkeeper as a target. As an example, they only list Arsenal, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle.
With things still not clear, we better wait and see who’s getting linked to Vlachodimos in the next few months. The goalkeeper has joined Benfica on a move from Panathinaikos this summer, and it’s impressive that he’s already being linked to a transfer. Record also claims that Bayern have been watching him for years.
Newcastle United are an interesting addition to the supposed tussle, and may well be looking at the player as a squad option for the future.
