Fenerbahçe defender Martin Skrtel has insisted he’s happy at the club, and a return to the Premier League is not a possibility for him at the moment.

The 32-year old has been receiving attention from Newcastle United in recent days, according to the Turkish media, but Fanatik claim Skrtel has told his close friends he has no intention to leave after just one season with the Turkish giants.

His experience would be valuable for Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez, but Skrtel has reportedly said: “I haven’t enjoyed the best of seasons but I still managed to produce good performances. I know there are speculations about me (returning to England) but I have no intention to leave the club. I’m very happy at Fenerbahçe and I’ve told my agent exactly that. I want to stay at this great club.”

It’s been recently claimed Skrtel could be set for a reunion with Benitez at Newcastle United, following their time together at Liverpool. The Spaniard signed the defender from Zenit in 2008, and the 32-year-old went on to spend eight seasons at Liverpool.

Fenerbahçe signed Skrtel from Liverpool for €6m last summer, and the Slovakian international featured in 47 games for the Turkish giants last season. Benitez made it clear at the start of the summer that he’d be looking to add Premier League experience to his squad, but that’s largely been ignored in subsequent rumours.
