Newcastle United’s chase for Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is highlighted by Portuguese newspaper A Bola today.

The outlet takes the player’s recent quotes to show he’s well protected by the Eagles with a contract which runs until 2024.

Vlachodimos has spoken to German outlet Kicker this week, and besides claiming he feels ‘comfortable’ in Lisbon, he’s also mentioned his deal with the club.

A Bola points out that Benfica have no intention of letting the goalkeeper go so soon, and currently consider him to be ‘non negotiable’.

The fact that he’s protected by a release clause of €60m makes the Eagles more calm about the situation, knowing they have a good margin of negotiation in case Newcastle go for him.

A Bola says the Magpies are about to spend their ‘petrodollars from Saudi origin’, and have the goalkeeper as one of their targets. But they’ll have to work hard if they really want the 26-year-old.
