Newcastle United target Ousmane Diomande is set to renew his contract with Sporting, according to reports from Portugal.
Newspaper A Bola today writes that the Lions want their African players tied to new deals before the African Cup of Nations, and the defender is one of them.
It’s said that even though Diomande has a contract until 2027, there’s the fact that he has a low salary and has been attracting the interest from many clubs, including Newcastle.
The defender receives €300k per year, and the club want to pay him something that represents how important he is in the squad. It’s also said it ‘would not be strange’ if they extend the deal until 2029.
Regarding the release clause, A Bola says the current figure ‘already is’ €80m, so maybe we won’t see a change in that, although Viktor Gyokeres’ stands at €100m.
Newcastle are named as one of the clubs who’ve been linked to him, as well as Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. It’s once again made very clear that he isn’t leaving in January unless one of those clubs puts that €80m on the table.
