With Lille defender Sven Botman becoming one of the main targets of AC Milan for the summer transfer window, the Italian media continues to cover every step the Rossoneri make towards his signing.
It turns out that with Newcastle United also interested in the 22-year-old, we thankfully get to see some updates saying which club is closer to landing him.
On Friday, Pianeta Milan featured an interview with French journalist Olivier Fosseux, who works for La Voix du Nord. They asked him about the race for the defender, and learned that Milan may actually be in a better position than the Magpies.
“Botman and Newcastle had real contact this winter. The player confirmed that. It is quite logical to be sensitive to these figures. Newcastle had come up with very important financial arguments where the player would triple his current salary,” said Fosseux.
“Then the Magpies want to create a great team and are making sure they stay in the Premier League. But Milan have two advantages: they will most likely play the Champions League and then I think Mike Maignan will be an excellent ambassador for the Italian club, his city and his fans.”
This week, it’s been claimed that Botman said ‘no’ to a new approach from Newcastle United ‘in recent days’, which makes it clear that the Magpies’ attempt wasn’t left behind in the January window. So there should be an interesting race for the Dutchman until someone finally takes him from Lille next summer.
