Newcastle United have scouted Portuguese matches on various occasions in recent years.
The Magpies haven’t been one of the Premier League clubs most frequently present, and when they’ve attended the big matches it’s often been a lesser star they were looking at, given the finances of the club.
Now, things are very different, and literally anyone on show in any Portuguese match is a legitimate target for Eddie Howe’s side, as long as the club manage to retain their Premier League status this season.
With that in mind, O Jogo report they had someone at Friday’s big match between FC Porto and Sporting, The game ended 2-2 and will be best remembered for a mass brawl, and four red cards.
Porto and Sporting are fighting each other for the league title, and things got a little overheated.
Newcastle were linked with Palhinha during January, but, surprisingly, the midfielder didn’t start the match.
O Jogo believe Fabio Vieira was Porto’s best player, with the forward scoring the third goal of the match.
For Sporting, Matheus Nunes stood out, and he could certainly be one to keep a transfer eye on.
