Newcastle United made firm efforts to sign multiple players in January, getting the success they needed for Premier League survival but missing out on some targets.

This includes Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and the possibility of joining the Magpies ‘seduced him a lot’, both from sporting and economic point of view.

He received a ‘dizzying’ offer from Newcastle United in the winter market, but the La Liga side refused to let the defender leave midway through the season.

These claims are relayed in today’s edition of ABC Sevilla, who add the centre-back was given a promise that he will be allowed to leave this summer.

Newcastle United are interested in the 29-year-old as they will ‘return to the fray’ for the Brazilian, ‘outlining a mega project for the next course’. The Premier League ‘attraction has not diminished’ for the player, who has managed to stand out for Sevilla in the recently concluded campaign.

The possibility to move to England is ‘presented to him as an opportunity’ to secure the last big contract of his career. ‘The mighty Newcastle’ are expected to go on the ‘offensive’ to conclude a deal.

Sevilla, for their part, view the summer window as the ‘ideal time’ to cash in from his sale to ‘generate capital gain’, since they have to raise funds to balance their books.

With all three parties keen to carry out a deal this summer, Carlos could end up at Newcastle United if Eddie Howe’s side make an offer to convince Sevilla.

The Magpies, however, must watch out for Aston Villa, who have now joined the race for Carlos’ signature.
