Claims continue about Newcastle United and Andreas Samaris, and if O Jogo are correct the interest is real.

In their Saturday edition, the Portuguese newspaper say Benfica are now waiting for the Premier League club to make an official offer to loan the midfielder for the rest of the season.

Newcastle are said to be putting things in writing after work already done by intermediaries trying to build a transfer transfer.

It would see the Premier League club pay €500k to loan the player for the rest of the season, with his contract at Benfica expiring in June.

Rafael Benitez’s side would have an option to then enforce a three year contract, and the Lisbon club would be entitled to 50% of any future transfer fee.

For Samaris, it doesn’t sound like a hugely enticing deal, given he could find himself without a club in the summer if Newcastle don’t take the option, and the power is all on the club’s side.

O Jogo say he’s tempted to push for a Benfica renewal, now that he’s more in the first team plans after manager Bruno Lage arrived at the club.
