Diego Carlos to Newcastle United has calmed a little in recent days, largely because Sevilla are insisting they won’t be pressured into a January transfer which doesn’t suit them.

After claims that the Brazilian defender would agitate at Sevilla and try and force the club into selling him, so he could accept a bumper contract with the Magpies, the reality of the case seems far away from that.

Marca report that Newcastle are continuing to press to try and get the transfer done before the window closes. They have a week to get the deal done, and Sevilla are being calm with their stance.

They refused to sell Jules Kounde in both of the two last summer windows, to Manchester City and then Chelsea, and know that the Frenchman’s value hasn’t fallen. Therefore, this is a path they’ve been down before.

Despite that, Marca also say that Sevilla are lining up substitutes, so they have a replacement signing should Newcastle present an offer which is simply too good to turn down.
